Motorola considering selling off mobile division
Last couple of years has been a struggle for Motorola in the mobile phone business. Nokia and Samsung are increasingly taking over their market share and the company has failed to come up with a successful mobile lineup to replace the Razr range of phones.
The company is now considering a sale or spinoff its cell phone business though they might still not be able to prevent clashes with investor Carl Icahn.
Motorola said in a statement that they are considering separating the handset unit from its other two businesses.
Icahn spoke about this announcement: “We believe Motorola is finally moving in the right direction but certainly still has a long way to go.”
Motorola CEO Greg Brown spoke about their plans: “We are exploring ways in which our mobile devices business can accelerate its recovery and retain and attract talent while enabling our shareholders to realize the value of this great franchise.”
