Puma targets Indian market for expansion
German company Puma is aiming to become the third largest brand in the sports lifestyle sector in India. The company is planning to expand fast and open some exclusive stores in the various major cities in the country starting from the second quarter of the current year itself.
Puma’s General Manager in charge of Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Martin Bowen was in Mumbai when he said in a statement: “Our primary aim would be to establish the presence of our brand in India and then look into the financial performances.”
The company has already opened a 100 per cent subsidiary in January this year in Bangalore. Bowen added: “Puma would try to establish itself as ‘the most desirable sports lifestyle company’ in India, in sync with its global ambition.”
For starters, Puma is planning to open exclusive retail stores in the country initially in five metro cities - Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Delhi. They plan to have a presence in all three ranges- apparel, footwear, and accessories - in the Indian market.
