Air Deccan planning their own hangar at Chennai airport

India’s most popular low cost budget airline company Air Deccan has announced their plans to build their own hanger facility at the Chennai airport. It would provide the company basic and medium level maintenance checks for its aircraft.

The company has already laid the foundation stone for hangar facility to be built over 62,000 sq ft at the Chennai airport and expects it to cost them around $ 5 million (about Rs 22 crore).

G R Gopinath, managing director, Air Deccan said in a statement about this upcoming facility that the hangar facility would not only strengthen the engineering infrastructure but also reduce the maintenance cost. In other words, the hanger would help the company reduce the downtime of the aircraft and increase on time performance.

Air Deccan is also planning to increase the number of Indian engineers for repair and maintenance. The company has also announced a new flight between Chennai-Tuticorin, which would now take place on a daily basis.
