Nikon reports improved profits on increasing sales of cameras

Nikon is the world’s second largest maker of digital single lens reflex (SLR) cameras and they have just reported that their quarterly profit tripled. This was mainly due to improved sales of digital cameras and chip equipment.

The company also raised its full year forecast on this improved demand for their cameras in the retail market. Nikon reported that its group operating profit was around 19.8 billion yen ($166.5 million) in the October-December quarter. This is a massive improvement from the figures of 5.9 billion yen a year earlier in the same quarter.

Nikon has benefited a lot from the sales of their compact digital cameras, which are capable of transferring images wirelessly to a PC or printer. In addition, they are selling more and more of their digital SLRs, which allow the users to interchange lenses as per the requirement of the shot.

The company also increased their operating profit target to 53 billion yen from 45 billion yen for the year.
