Philips to enter Indian mobile phone market
Royal Philips has announced their plans to re-enter into the Indian mobile phone market which is seeing a massive growth as the country adds up million of new customers every month. They are going to launch accessories for mobile devices in India.
Philips has collaborated with Nokia to make accessories supporting Nokia’s music-enabled handsets.
Alexander Bakkeren, vice-president and category leader for the mobility segment in Philips Consumer Lifestyle spoke about this new development: “Nokia is by far the market leader in the handset market in India, and hence the decision to enter into an agreement.”
He added: “This allows huge opportunity brand like Philips to get an initial advantage in a mobile telecom market that is ready to explode in the next 2-3 years.”
Nils Leseberg, senior director for strategy and alliances at Philips Consumer Lifestyle spoke about plans to launch iPod accessories: “On an average, every iPod user buys at least two accessories and spending nearly $70 per accessory, presenting a company like us with interesting margins in the business.”
