Ford Fiesta brings record sales for Ford India
The month of March was not only good for the market leaders Maruti but also brought good news for the American automaker Ford. Ford India, a wholly owned unit of Ford Motor has confirmed that their sales rose 83 percent from a year ago to 5,929 units in March.
This is also their highest ever sales recorded in a single month. In the first three months of the current year, the company saw sales of 14,125 units in the domestic market. This is a massive improvement from sales of 7,607 units in the same period a year earlier.
Ford India gained from improved sales of Ford Ikon and the newly launched vehicle Ford Fiesta. The company also said in a statement that they sold as many as 22,347 units in India in 2005. Apart from Ford Ikon and Fiesta, they also sell Fusion mid-size and Endeavor sports utility along with the Ford Fusion model in the Indian market.
The company has plans to invest a further $75 million in India to support its growth plans in Asia’s third-largest economy. With General Motors expanding their product range here in India, it is crucial for Ford to be prepared to handle the upcoming competition in the market.
