Eliot Spitzer sues Direct Revenue LLC over spyware software
New York’s attorney general Eliot Spitzer has sued another internet company, which develops technology for Internet pop-up advertising. He has accused Direct Revenue LLC of secretly installing malicious programs and delivering ads through a spyware installed on the victim’s machine.
Spitzer said in a statement that the sued company has installed millions of pop-up ad programs and also monitors Internet activity of targeted web users to deliver unwanted programs and advertisement. He has asked the courts to stop this practice followed by the internet company.
He said in a statement: “These applications are deceptive and unfair to consumers, bad for businesses that rely on efficient networks to do their jobs, and bad for online retailers that need consumers to trust and enjoy their online experience.”
Spitzer further added: “We will continue to side with consumers in their fight for control of their desktops.”
