Egypt bans anonymous mobile connections

Egypt has become the latest nation to ban mobile connections in no names.

The country now requires every connection to be registered with a name and address.

Trade Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid said in a statement: “Everyone who uses the telephone must be known.”

Vodafone Egypt has already started complying with this ruling. For starters they have disabled text messaging capabilities for anonymous subscribers.

Another provider Mobinil said that the move is also essential to implement number portability.
