Bangladesh: telecom operators told to disconnect unregistered mobile connections

Bangladesh telecom watchdog has instructed the telecom companies in the country to disconnect the mobile connections which are still unregistered.

As per market sources more than 1 million connections in the country are yet to be registered with the operators.

Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission said in a statement: “There won’t be any new extension of the deadline, and the unidentified SIMs must be deactivated.”

The government had set up new rules requiring all mobile connections to be registered with the authorities last year. The deadline is now up.

The country has more than 40 million mobile users with mobile penetration rate of more than 26 percent.
