Blackberry has more than 5 million subscribers
Research In Motion Ltd. has said that they now have more than 5 million subscribers to their hugely popular Blackberry device. In addition, the company has hit over US$2 billion in revenue for its fiscal year 2006 that ended last month.
In fact, RIM said that they shipped a total of 4 million handheld devices during its past fiscal year. Another 1.1 million units were shipped in the quarter just ended March 4. In addition, RIM reported that their revenue jumped to $2.07 billion in the fiscal year ending March 4.
Jim Balsillie, chairman of RIM, in a statement on these figures: “We recently passed the $2 billion annual revenue and 5 million subscribers milestones and we have begun the new fiscal year with over 150 carrier partners around the world.”
During the last quarter of its financial year, RIM added 625,000 new subscribers. They seemed to have gained from the recently settled patent litigation with NTP Inc. in March.
