NBC Universal acquiring The Weather Channel from Landmark Communications

NBC Universal has announced that they are collaborating with Bain Capital and Blackstone Group to acquire The Weather Channel from Landmark Communications.

They have not disclosed the financial aspects of the deal though sources hint towards a value of somewhere around $3.5 billion in cash.

The deal includes the television channel in addition to their website Weather.com.

NBC Universal became the sole bidder for the company after Time Warner dropped out. Some other companies interested in this deal were CBS and Comcast.

NBC already operates their own service called NBC Weather Plus and this new acquisition would further enhance those operations.

NBC and Landmark added in a statement that The Weather Channel would continue to operate as a separate entity.
