LG Electronics India to assemble LCD TVs in India
South Korean consumer electronics giants LG have said that they are planning to establish an assembly plant for LCD TVs here in India. In addition, they are also considering assembly of high-end plasma display panels in India.
The company has plans to assemble liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions at its plants in Noida, Uttar Pradesh or at another plant in Ranjangaon near Pune, by mid-2006. This would help the company drop the rates of their LGEIL’s LCD TVs in India by around 25 per cent.
LG India is hoping to increase their share in the Indian LCD TV market to 33 per cent in 2006 against 22 per cent achieved in 2005. The market for LCD TVs in 2005 in India was estimated at 18,000 units. This is expected to grow to 90,000 units this year.
LGEIL further added that they plan to assemble high-end plasma display panels (PDP) in India, possibly from next calendar year.
