BSE Sensex crosses 10,000 for the first time
The Bombay Stock Exchange’s 30-share Sensex crossed the milestone of 10,000 points today for the first time ever. It touched an intra day high of 10,000.83, but shed a few points to close at 9,971.03.
The closing position for the Sensex is a record of its own. However, the last couple of weeks have seen records forming and breaking almost on a daily basis. The Bombay Stock Exchange has soared to record heights with the Sensex rising 60 percent since this particular rally began in May 2005.
Since than, it has crossed new milestones every other month with it touching the 8,000-level in September. It went on to touch the 9,000-mark in November. In the process, it has smashed all the records formed in more than a century for the exchange, which was established way back in 1875.
Market analysts have however cautioned the investors that they should not get overly excited with this incredible feat. However, the market has shown stability in the last couple of weeks and is expected to maintain this level for sometime. BSE seems to have benefited a lot from the massive foreign investment coming in the last couple of months.
