Skype Technologies acquires Sonorit Holding and Camino Networks
eBay’s Skype Technologies has said that they are acquiring Internet voice technology company Sonorit Holding and its U.S. subsidiary, Camino Networks.
This deal is worth around $27 million and is conducted through eBay stocks.
Skype said that this acquisition would help them add the companies’ online voice engineering experts to its staff. They plan to use their expertise in designing and developing future versions of Skype’s VoIP (voice over IP) product.
Skype said that these two companies build products for speech processing, coding, and transmission over Internet-based networks. Some of these products are geared towards mobile IP networks.
Skype was itself acquired by eBay in 2005 for $2.5 billion. The company is using Skype technologies for use on their online auction site to communicate with each other easily.
