Mint: Toyota might use Daihatsu technology for its small car in India
Financial newspaper Mint has reported that the Japanese automaker Toyota might use the expertise of affiliate mini-vehicle maker Daihatsu for their upcoming small car for the Indian market.
The company has started a new manufacturing plant in this market which has a manufacturing capacity of 100,000 units per year.
This plant is likely to be used for their upcoming small car in addition to other models.
Akira Okabe, senior managing director of Toyota Motor was quoted as saying about their plans: “In this project we are proceeding on our own. But for future projects we would like to make use of the strength of Daihatsu.”
They are likely to launch a small car in India within the next 2-3 years.
