Mahindra Scorpio diesel-electric hybrid to be out by the end of the year

Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that they are planning to launch a start-stop option of its Scorpio diesel-electric hybrid by end of 2008.

A company representative said: “We plan to launch the start-stop option of the Scorpio hybrid before the end of this year since it is fuel efficient without adding on too much cost.”

This start stop option enhances the fuel efficiency of the vehicle as it stops and automatically restarts the engine as per the requirement (like on red lights).

Arun Jaura, chief technology officer, Mahindra Group and chairman, National Hybrid Propulsion Platform added: “Hybridisation offers many advantages, primarily the benefits of fuel economy and reduction in emissions.”

Honda Civic Hybrid is currently the only hybrid car on sale in the Indian market. Mahindra is also planning to launch a hybrid version of Bolero in the future. Toyota is also rumored to be considering plans to bring Prius in India.
