Toyota to import engines for its upcoming small car
Japanese automaker Toyota has said that they would be importing the engines for its small car which is being planned for the Indian market.
This small car is likely to be a variant of their Yaris model which is a best seller worldwide.
Shekar Viswanathan, director of TKM spoke about their plans: “Initially, the company would import engines from its facilities in Thailand or Japan. TKM could start manufacturing engines here only after the volumes touched around 2.5 lakh vehicles per annum.”
He further said: “We would look at increasing local sourcing in the coming years provided it matched the quality and cost parameters.”
The company aims to boost its market share in India to around 10% in the coming years.
