UMG Recordings sued by The Allman Brothers Band
The Allman Brothers Band has filed a lawsuit against UMG Recordings over royalties from sources like Audio CD and digital download sales.
They are seeking payments worth around USD 10 million from the company.
The plaintiffs named in the lawsuit include Greg Allman, Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, Butch Trucks and Dickey Betts.
This lawsuit has been filed in the Manhattan federal court and they are claiming that UMG is not paying the band correct royalty rate for its digital exploitation of the Capricorn Masters.
The lawsuit further states: “UMG incurs practically no expenses or risks in connection with the Masters, particularly with respect to licensing other companies such as Apple to create and distribute digital downloads … yet UMG reaps millions of dollars every year from such exploitation.”
