GM India invests for a new engine plant
General Motors has announced that they are going to invest heavily to setup a powertrain (engine, gearbox and transmission) project near Pune in India.
This project would see investments of $200 million.
The company said that the project would have an annual production capacity of 160,000 units.
GM India added: “GM’s total investment in the country will go up to $1 billion. This shows our confidence in emerging markets like India. We cannot remain a global industry leader without a strong presence in India. This will enable us to capture more opportunities in one of the fastest growing vehicle markets in the world.”
The company said that this new plant would provide employment to about 1,400 people.
