Tata stops work at Nano plant indefinitely

Tata continues to face protests at their Nano plant in West Bengal. The company has now announced that they are halting the work for an indefinite period.

Incidentally, protestors have already successfully managed to stop any kind of work at the plant since Friday last week.

They continue to claim that the company did not pay the farmers enough compensation for the land used for the plant.

Tata said in a statement: “The situation around the Nano plant continues to be hostile and intimidating. There is no way this plant could operate efficiently unless the environment became congenial and supportive of the project. We came to West Bengal hoping we could add value, prosperity and create job opportunities in the communities in the State.”

West Bengal industry minister Nirupam Sen had this to say: “It’s unfortunate and ominous for the state. There is no doubt about that. It is a sad day for West Bengal.”

Several other states in India have already sent their invitations to Tata to relocate their plant.
