Ratan Tata: We still aim to launch Tata Nano as per current schedule

Tata Motors continues to face massive problems in West Bengal where protestors have completely halted the work in the plant which was to manufacture the Tata Nano car.

Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata has now said that they are going to try their best to launch Tata Nano as per their current schedule.

He said: “We plan to launch Nano as per our schedule. We will try and do everything possible to ensure that Nano is launched on time.”

He did not however comment on where the production of Nano would begin. When asked about Singur, he responded: “This needs to be asked to others and not to me.”

He also refused to confirm whether they would be able to meet the Rs. 1 lakh price point for Tata Nano. Tata said: “Pressure is there due to increased material cost. Therefore, I am even more reinforced that there would be growing requirement for low-cost small car in India and other markets. The need and demand for low-cost cars in India is growing and such a car would be more dominant because it reaches out to the people who are looking out for their first car. Even globally, the demand for small cars would go up due to the rising fuel costs. The small car is here to stay.”
