Tata Motors unhappy with Singur deal

Tata has expressed their shock and unhappiness at the ways West Bengal went into agreement with the protestors at Singur.

The company said that they were not consulted before the agreement was signed.

Tata could now possibly pull out from the state as they believe any return of land would make the project unviable for them.

The company stated: “Tata Motors is distressed at the limited clarity on the outcome.”

Sources say that Tata Motors had already returned around 40 of the 997 acres of the land leased to them before work started at the project. They are not in a position to return any more land.

Tata Motors added: “We will review our stated position only if we are satisfied that the viability of the project is not being impinged, the integral nature of the mother plant and our ancillary units are being maintained, and all stakeholders are committed to develop a long term congenial environment for smooth operations of the plant in Singur.”
