Palm a big loser yet again in the Smartphone market
There is no doubt that the Smartphone market is growing at a rapid pace. But Palm is not benefiting from it as rival companies continue to take away market share.
The company has now posted a fifth straight quarterly loss. The sales of their Treo and Centro e-mail phones fell further behind the market leader RIM blackberry.
Palm reported that their quarterly net loss widened to $41.9 million from $841,000 in the same period last year.
The revenues were however up a bit to $366.9 million.
The entry of Apple has also made situation more complicated for the company. iPhone has been a major hit in the US market and continues to take away market share from other Smartphone manufacturers.
Market analyst Tavis McCourt spoke about Palm: “They are just not going to have the new product launches this quarter that they had last quarter. This market — so much of it is driven by product launches.”
