Lenovo and Microsoft collaborates on Windows Operating System

China based Lenovo is the world’s third largest manufacturer of personal computers. They have now joined hands with Microsoft and signed on an agreement, which would see them pre-installing Windows operating system on Lenovo’s computers made in China.

This deal alone is expected to bring in $1.2 billion in sales of Microsoft’s Windows operating system software for the software giant in the next 12 months. This deal also means that Lenovo is the first China based personal computer manufacturer to pre-install Windows in all of its product lines for the China market.

Software Piracy is rampant in this country and this deal comes just after the Chinese government announced their plans to outlaw the sales of naked computers. Naked computers are PCs sold without a pre-installed operating system from the hardware manufacturers.

Lenovo chairperson Yang Yuanqing added during this announcement that the percentage of customers who chose to buy a Lenovo PC pre-installed with Windows XP rose from 10 percent before November to more than 70 percent now.
