Ford India aims to launch their small car by 2010
US based automaker Ford has announced that they aim to launch a new small car in the Indian market by 2010.
The company has already announced massive investments in the Indian market for enhancing their presence.
Michael Boneham, managing director and president of Ford India said in a statement on their plans for the Indian market: “Ford now has a presence in only 30 percent of India’s automobile market segments. We are entering other segments too. These are exciting times. We are also commissioning a new engine manufacturing unit. It will serve both the domestic and global markets. It will have the flexibility to produce diesel and petrol engines. The idea is to go for higher localization in the months to come.”
About the small car for India, he said that a Ford Global Team is developing it specifically to meet the demand of the Indian customer.
The car is likely to come powered with a sub 1.2 liter engine.
