General Motors to close down SUV plant in Ohio

US based automaker GM has said that they are now planning to close down an SUV plant in Ohio.

The plant would be closed by the end of the year.

This plant closure would result in around 1,200 job cuts.

GM said that most of these are hourly workers.

This plant located in Moraine, Ohio manufacture the company’s Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Saab 9-7X SUVs.

GM had to take this extreme step as SUV sales continue to fall down in the US market.

The company is currently working on their Chevrolet Volt electric car which would be launched in the market in the next 2-3 years.
