Tata collaborating with GS Yuasa International for automotive batteries

Indian industrial giant Tata has announced its collaboration with Japan’s GS Yuasa International Ltd. through its Tata AutoComp Systems unit to make automotive batteries for sale in the Indian market.

The company already manufactures cars for the Indian market through its Tata Motors subsidiary and makes popular selling models like the Tata Indica and Tata Indigo. The joint venture would be called Tata AutoComp GY Batteries Pvt. Ltd. and it would be manufacturing batteries for auto manufacturers and the retail market in a facility near Pune.

The two companies however declined to reveal the financial details of their collaboration. Tata owns 50 percent of the Tata AutoComp Systems. The company would face competition from the market leaders Exide Industries Ltd. There is more competition from other major players existing in the Indian market like Amara Raja Battery and others.
