Essar to re-open petrol pumps in India

Essar Oil has announced that they are now going to re-open their retail sale points in India.

The company is planning to open most of its 1,250 fuel stations by the end of December.

Essar said that the falling crude oil prices makes it viable for them to get back in the retail market.

Indian government subsidize the prices for state owned oil companies so it becomes difficult for the private players to compete otherwise.

Reliance Industries has however refused to go ahead with re-opening their petrol pumps as they want the government to change its policy of subsidizing sales from only state-run retail outlets.

Essar spoke about their plans: “We have reactivated 300-350 retail outlets, mainly in southern and western India from August. In November, most of the stations in north and some other parts will be restarted.”
