Nokia to pay $2.5 billion to Qualcomm

World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has revealed that they would be making an upfront payment of $2.5 billion to wireless technology company Qualcomm.

This payment would be part of the settlement with the company related to royalty disputes.

Nokia did not give out many details on this new arrangement with Qualcomm.

The two companies have signed a 15 year long contract which gives Nokia access to a wide portfolio of Qualcomm’s patents.

Nokia and Qualcomm are now going to drop their lawsuits against each other.

Qualcomm is the company behind the CDMA mobile technology. It is widely used around the world.

Nokia has a small presence in the CDMA mobile phone market. This deal is likely to help them launch new devices based on this technology.
