Wipro has no place for reservations: Azim Premji
Wipro chairperson Azim Premji has said it clearly that his company has no place for reservations for hiring people. He has made it clear in a statement that Wipro would recruit people only on the basis of merit thus ruling out reservation at Wipro.
His was a reaction to the statement made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who recently asked industries to broad base employment and make it representative.
Azim Premji said: “We compete with global companies. We are primarily in the service business in terms of the mix of our consolidated revenues.”
He further added: “Service business is highly people-dependent. People make you (the company) successful or the people make you less successful. We have no alternative but to hire the best talent available within India and the best talent available globally to man our positions - critical positions, non-critical positions, (and) programming positions.”
He is of course not alone. A lot of big industrialists have said that the move from the government is a bad one and they believe that there is no need of forcing reservations in private jobs.
