Intel posts disappointing results as sales drop
The popularity of AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) microprocessors in the PC market is showing its effects. Intel has posted disappointing results as the sales dropped in the most recent quarter.
Intel is the world’s largest maker of PC microprocessors and they have said that its first-quarter profit sank 38 percent. This is the worst decline for the company in more than four years as they continue to lose market share to AMD.
Intel’s net income fell down from $2.18 billion, or 35 cents, a year earlier to $1.35 billion or 23 cents a share in the first three months of the current year. Sales were down 5.2 percent to $8.94 billion.
This is also first quarterly results in last 12 to show such a decline in profits.
