Maruti to meet ELV recycling standards by 2010

India’s leading automaker Maruti Suzuki has said that they are aiming to meet European Union’s end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling standards by 2010.

They are already on their way to launch their first model meeting these tough norms in the coming days. Maruti A-Star would be the first vehicle in India from the company to do so.

Maruti Splash would become their second model to meet the standards when it goes on sale in India next year.

The company is also working on a sedan model named Kizashi which would be launched next year. This model would also meet the new standards.

A Maruti representative spoke about their plans: “We are looking at total transformation of our products to meet environment norms. While ELV is mandatory in the European Union, we will voluntarily adopt the norms in India to churn out green cars. We will upgrade all our cars to meet the stringent Euro-IV norms and our future cars will also have new engines to deliver higher fuel efficiency.”
