Toyota Prius launch in India postponed for now

Japanese automaker Toyota has revealed that they have postponed all plans to launch their Prius hybrid car in the Indian market.

The economic conditions are worsening worldwide. The government is yet to provide a suitable market scenario for hybrids in India.

The company is also facing issues pricing the model right for India considering it would be imported for sale in the market.

Toyota is said to have been working on plans to bring the Prius at a price tag of Rs 20-22 lakh.

However, Honda is already offering the Civic Hybrid at a price lower than this which makes Prius a bad deal for the end customer.

Toyota India has said that they are going to continue evaluating the market situation for these hybrid cars.

They are currently working on their Fortuner SUV model for launch in India.
