Indian government asks Air India to cut fares

Indian Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel has asked the state owned airline company Air India cut the tariffs on their flights.

This is now likely to put pressure on the private airline operators in the country to do the same.

Jet, Kingfisher have already refused to accept the demands from the government to lower their fares.

Patel spoke about Air India: “Air India does not have to behave like the other two carriers. It is a responsible, government carrier. If oil prices have come down, so should fares.”

Air India is likely to reduce the fares next month.

Patel added: “Whatever little benefit has been given by the government must reflect in lower and better fares. Otherwise, public and government sympathy for your cause will go.”
