Gartner: Mobile phone sales are affected by economy slowdown

Market analysis firm Gartner has reported that the slowing down economy is taking its toll on mobile phone sales.

The report said that more and more customers are delaying changing their handsets to get new ones.

The mobile phone market internationally is likely to contract next year.

The situation is noticeable in both rich and poor countries.

Western Europe and Japan are two of the hardest hit markets for mobile phone makers.

Asia-Pacific is however still showing strong growth in mobile phone sales.

New customers are the ones who are still buying mobile phones. Existing customers are preferring to stick with their current models.

India and China remain the hottest markets for the manufacturers as sales are strong in these two markets.
