iSuppli: Laptops now dominate desktop sales in the world

iSuppli: Laptops now dominate desktop sales in the world

iSuppli has stated in a report that laptops have finally overtake desktops in term of sales worldwide.

The research company call this development a “watershed event” for the industry.

The report said that the shipments of laptops surged nearly 40 percent to 38.6 million units.

In comparison the sales of desktops is down 1.3 percent to 38.5 million.

These figures are for the third quarter of the year.

The overall shipments of personal computers in this period was up 15.4 percent to 79 million units.

Acer was one of the biggest beneficiaries as they shipped almost 3 million more notebooks in the third quarter than in the previous quarter.

The company is a dominating player in the emerging netbooks market which are selling like hot cakes this holiday season.

HP continues to remain the leading PC manufacturer with shipments of 14.9 million units with a net market share of 18.8 percent.
