Qwest told to restore services to SkyWi customers

New Mexico regulatory bodies have now ordered Qwest to restore services to Internet service provider SkyWi.

Qwest had disconnected the services provided to SkyWi claiming that the company owed them money.

State’s Public Regulation Commission met for an emergency meeting and decided to place this order.

Qwest has been given time till Thursday morning to restore these services. If they are unable to do so, they would have to explain why they should not be penalized.

SkyWi provides its own services by purchasing it in bulk from Qwest. They were asked by Qwest to pay them more than $580,000 by Monday to continue the service.

SkyWi’s chief development officer, Don Levy admitted that they owe some money to Qwest but not as much as the company is claiming.

Jack Leach, president of SkyWi had this to say on the developments: “We have no issue with Qwest competing with us for the same customers, as that is the nature of healthy competition. But Qwest has opted to take unfair advantage of their control over the telecom networks in this region to create barriers that destroy the competitiveness of smaller ISPs.”
