Renault ultra-low-cost car project faces slowdown in India

Renault has been working with Bajaj Auto on an ultra-low-cost car for the Indian market.

The slowdown in the economy has now forced the companies to go slow on this project.

The two companies however said that they are still on track with the project which aims to develop a model that could take on the Tata Nano whenever it is launched.

Renault India VP communications & corporate affairs Ashish Sinharoy spoke about the current situation: “Renault has slowed down many projects across the world including its under-development factory in Morocco. In Chennai, the construction work continues though we have frozen our product plans for the moment. However, Nissan’s product plans out of the Chennai plant are very much on.”
