Tokyo Motor Show loses Ford and Chrysler

US based automakers Ford and Chrysler have announced that they would not be participating in the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

GM is also said to be close to announcing their decision to not participate in this trade show.

Ford said in a statement on this development: “At this time, participating in the show is not a strategic priority. There is obviously a savings as a result of this decision.”

This is nothing new. Even Nissan, Suzuki and Porsche stayed away from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year.

Automakers around the world are struggling with the slowing down global economy. The aim is to cut costs to stay competitive in these tough times.
