Acer closing in on second spot held by Dell
Dell has already lost the top spot to Hewlett Packard in the personal computer business.
Now they could soon lose their second spot to an unlikely rival… Acer.
Acer used to be on the seventh position in 2003.
But the company has made phenomenal progress in the last couple of years.
Market analyst Daniel Chang said in a note: “In the next two or three quarters, you will probably see Acer surpass Dell.”
The latest market reports have these market shares for the three companies:
HP: 19.6%
Dell: 13.7%
Acer: 11.8%
Dell is losing market share to rival companies at an alarming rate. And the popularity of netbooks mean that Acer is gaining much of that.
Acer also made significant gains from the acquisition of Gateway they made in August 2007. They also acquired Packard-Bell brand to expand their operations in Europe.
