Verizon Communications to cut jobs at MCI call centers
Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) has said in a statement that they are planning to cut 1,661 jobs in four U.S. customer call centers.
This job cut announcement is part of their plan to cut 7,000 jobs after acquired MCI in January this year.
The company employs around 250,000 workers and these job cuts would be spread over a period of next three years.
The aim is to cut costs and save around $8 billion in savings. The call centers targeted for these latest job cuts are based in Iowa, Texas, Missouri, and South Carolina.
The fired workers would receive six weeks to six months severance pay. This would depend upon the time they have spent working for the company.
They would also be phasing out the centers where workers handle telephone inquiries from MCI’s residential customers and make sales calls.
