Intel to cut costs as it gets offensive against AMD
World’s largest manufacturer of PC microprocessors Intel has announced their plans to cut costs in the coming years. This is to counter the effect of growing competition from AMD and slowing computer sales in the market.
This has led to a speculation that the company might be forced to cut jobs in not-so-profitable ventures in the coming times. Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini has said in a statement that the company would be launching a top-to-bottom review of the company’s operations to see where they can cut costs.
He said: “We are very well aware of the realities of our current and future business outlook and we are taking actions to address these realities. No stone will remain unturned.”
They are already working on new generations of processors which consumer less power and are faster than current processors to generate more sales in the market which is moving towards their competitor AMD.
Otellini also added that Intel would now change its microarchitecture every two years compared to every four years or so as in the past. This is to enhance the speed of developing newer technologies to make faster and more efficient processors in the future.
