Audi might setup a manufacturing unit in India
Germany based maker of luxury cars Audi might setup a manufacturing base in India if they manage to sell enough cars in the local market.
Ralph Weyler, a member of the global management board of Audi said in a statement on the company’s plans for Indian market: “We may look at it to expand our understanding of the market and consumer habits here. This may also help us in building the corporate brand of Audi”.
The company has already established showrooms in the major cities Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore and is planning to expand this to other cities in the country. Audi India is aiming at selling 400 cars across the country in the current year.
Weyler added: “We may look at various possibilities including talking to our group companies, like Skoda, on whether we could add on to their existing plant and roll out cars from there. Otherwise, we could look at our own plant. But currently our volume here is too small.”
Setting up a manufacturing base locally would help the company cut costs on making available their luxury cars in the Indian market. However, considering they have just entered the Indian market, it would take them some time to settle down and consider setting up a base here.
