General Motors sales down by 7% in US
Just like Ford Motors, GM USA has also reported falling sales in their home market. GM said in a statement that its sales were down 7 percent.
GM suffered due to falling sales of their cars, which negated the gains they made with the recently launched new line of full-size sport-utility vehicles.
The company reported that they sold 345,404 vehicles last month. The sales of the cars were down by as much as 18%. The truck sales however were up by around 2%.
GM continues to lose market share to their Japanese competitors in their home market as they are struggling to come out of the massive losses they suffered last year. They pulled back aggressively on low-margin sales to fleet operators last month and benefited from demand for their newly launched line of SUVs.
Some of the popular GM models last month were Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade. These three vehicles saw a 15% gain in sales.
