Bajaj low cost car project seems to be in trouble

Bajaj, Renault and Nissan have been working together on a low cost car project that is designed to take on the Tata Nano which is going to be launched in the Indian market this month.

The latest news about that project is that it is in trouble.

Bajaj Auto managing director Rajiv Bajaj has apparently ordered that all the work done on this project till now has been scrapped. He has asked for major modifications in the car’s design and other aspects as per inside sources.

This means that the project is unlikely to be launched as planned in 2011. Bajaj has declined to comment on these reports in the market.

Tata itself had to delay the launch of their Nano model due to political opposition in West Bengal. They are now setting up the Nano plant in Gujarat.
