Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee blames Trinamool Congress for Tata Nano fiasco
Tata Motors is all set to launch their much awaited Nano small car tomorrow.
The launch is going to be historic both for the company and the nation.
It would become the cheapest car in the world at launch.
The car is the brainchild of Ratan Tata who wanted to offer a cheap car to the people of India most of whom still rely on two wheelers to travel with their families.
The car was originally set to be manufactured in the state of West Bengal. But Tata had to relocate the Nano plant in Gujarat after facing political pressure.
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has now said that the blame lies with the Trinamool Congress party for creating obstacles for the company to establish their plant in the Bengal state.
He said: ”Had not the Opposition forced Tata Motors to close down its plant at Singur, the car would have rolled out from Kolkata and not Mumbai.”
Tata’s decision to move the plant away from West Bengal resulted in a loss of at least 6000 jobs in the state.
Since the Nano plant is still under construction at its new site in Gujarat, Tata would be able to sell just a few units every month.
Demand is likely to be heavy when the bookings open up in the coming weeks. Market analysts believe that the company should be able to book around 10 lakh units within the first couple of weeks.
