Michelin to setup manufacturing unit in India

French tire manufacturer Michelin Group has said in a statement that they are considering setting up a manufacturing base in India. They would be making radial tires for buses, trucks, and passenger cars.

They were till now working with their Indian joint venture partner, Apollo Tires. However, this partnership could not survive for very long as the two partners parted their ways last year.

Herve Dub, CEO, Michelin India said in a statement on their plans: “We have plans of setting up a manufacturing facility in India to make tires for buses, trucks, and passenger cars and are closely watching the growth of this market. Our decision to set up a base here will be completely market driven. There are no changes to our initial plans.”

They are currently importing tires from their units located in China and Thailand for sales in the Indian market. Michelin also launched a new product for the Indian market. Michelin’s energy XM 1 is designed to cater to cars in the midsize segment.
