Sun Microsystems announces more job cuts
Sun Microsystems has announced more job cuts in their global organization.
The company announced that they are going to cut around 1500 jobs.
This would be part of their restructuring plan announced a few months ago.
Some of these jobs would be cut in their direct sales and professional services division as per market sources.
The company said in a statement on this new development: “Sun continues to make important choices to streamline operations and align resources to best address market opportunity and position the company for improved financial performance and long-term growth.”
Sun is said to be in talks with IBM over a possible acquisition deal.

Wow, it amazes me that Sun is on the verge of extinction.
Not going out of business, but becoming irrelevant.
I am having flashbacks of Wang, Digital and Compaq.
A once great innovator is now trying to sell itself in pieces to the highest bidder.
I am sad to have been part of the layoff, I am glad that I will not witness the final breath.

Sad days indeed. Sun was once a GREAT and high flying company, as well as a GREAT company to be part of. I not only spent 12 1/2 years at Sun, but also 10 years at Digital Equipment. DEC was also a GREAT place to be in the mid 80’s. Never thought I’d see the day that the company would no longer exist. It’s hard to believe that the same will happen with Sun.
