Sony Ericsson to cut more jobs

Sony Ericsson continues to struggle in the highly competitive mobile phone market.

The company has now announced that they are cutting another 2000 jobs with the aim of saving 400 million Euros.

Sony Ericsson recently posted a pre-tax loss of 358m Euros for the first three months of the year.

The company said: “As expected, the first quarter of this year has been extremely challenging for Sony Ericsson due to continued weak global demand.”

Sony Ericsson president Dick Komiyama added: “The management intends to pursue an additional cost saving programme targeting a further annual operating expense reduction of 400m Euros, to be completed by mid-2010.”

With the entry of new players like Google and Apple in the mobile market, innovative products have become the demand of the day. Sony has been pretty slow in launching new exciting models and this is resulting in slowing down sales for them.
