NTL to cut 4,000 UK jobs as it acquires Virgin

NTL has just completed the acquisition of cable rival Telewest and they are planning to announce that around 4000 jobs would be axed as part of their cost cutting plans.

They are due to come out with more details when they would be announcing first-quarter results on Tuesday. They would also elaborate on their plans to integrate the two businesses.

NTL would be closing the Telewest’s Woking head office and some of the staff located here would be transferred to NTL’s existing head office in Hampshire.

Market analysts also believe that the combined entity would be outsourcing most of the combined group’s call centres. Some of these jobs might come to India.

NTL has already closed down six of their call centers based in UK. And they also have two outsourcing deals with IBM and Fujitsu.

The company expects to save around £250 million over the next three years through this merger.
